Day by Day

Dead, Beat, Dad - Part 5

We’re taking it day by day. Nights six and seven were tough. Baby H wanted to eat every hour, so Janice and I alternated 15 minute naps between feedings. The day feedings spread back out out, but naps couldn’t catch me up. I felt like the waking dead around the clock. All part of the experience.

Fortunately last night was a little more consistent, with feedings every two to three hours. That gave enough sleep to feel like a human, albeit a tired one. We’ll see what tomorrow brings.

Cluster feeding

Newborns sometimes feed in short bursts, packing multiple sessions into a short period. We’re in the thick of it.

I’ve heard several reasons for it, such as “filling up” before a long sleep and soothing, because the breast is their most comforting place. Whatever the reason, it’s tough on parents. It’s safe to say we’ll be taking more naps while we work through it.

HTMX and updating views

Here is a rough plan for the initial endpoints needed to create new log data points. I’ll take a crack at it tomorrow.

GET /log - displays the logged events
POST /log - creates a new log event (feed and elim)
PATCH /log - updates a log

GET /log/new - displays the page to log a new event

GET /log/new/feed - displays the page to enter a new feed log entry
GET /log/new/elim - displays the page to enter a new elimination log entry
